Donald G. Langley b. February 22, 1918; died August 23, 2006 Obituary Donald G. Langley, 88, of Lexington, MA, formerly of Maplewood, NJ, died August 23 in Mt. Auburn Hospital, Cambridge, MA. Mr. Langley worked as an electro-mechanical engineer at Kearfott Guidance and Navigation Division of Singer Corporation in Little Falls, NJ from 1948-1988. He was a project engineer involved in the development, testing and production of gyroscopic systems for military aircraft and missiles. He was recognized for his excellent hands-on capabilities, great patience and reliable, accurate designs. In 1966 he received a patent for a superior gyro caging mechanism. Earlier he worked as a senior service engineer for Arma Corporation of Brooklyn, NY. Here he was a civilian employee of the US Navy, testing and installing gyroscopic guidance systems for Naval combat vessels. Choosing to waive his Arma Corp. deferment, Mr. Langley served in the US Army in 1946-1947. Mr. Langley was a graduate of Columbia High School and attended Newark College of Engineering. Mr. Langley was born, raised, and then raised his own family at 100 Durand Rd., Maplewood, NJ. In 1949 he married Dorothy French and they shared nearly 55 years together. He was a devoted husband and father. After the death of his wife, Dot, in 2004, Mr. Langley moved to an assisted living facility in Lexington, MA to be near his daughters. He was an active member of Morrow Memorial Church for over 50 years, contributing to numerous church activities including turnover sale, ushering and the parsonage committee. He worked with his wife, Dot, for many years at the Maplewood Thrift Shop and was also a member of the Maplewood Little Club. He is survived by one son, David, in Ann Arbor, MI; two daughters, Carolyn, in Watertown, MA, and Margaret (Peggy), in Arlington, MA; and five nieces. A Memorial Service will be held at Morrow Memorial Church 600 Ridgewood Rd, Maplewood on Sun, Aug 27th at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Morrow Memorial Fund.
