Edward Duncan Montpleaise, 84, of Irvington, N.J., died on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Good Shepherd Parish, 285 Nesbit Terrace, Irvington, on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 10 a.m. Interment is in Brigadier General William Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown, N.J. Visitation will be held at the Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave., Maplewood, N.J., on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. For more information or to send condolences, please visit jacobhollefuneralhome.com. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Montpleaise lived in Irvington for 40 years and was a parishioner at Good Shepherd Church there. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps at age 17 and served from 1944 to 1947, during World War II. In 1995, Mr. Montpleaise completed a course in commissioner skills at Rutgers University, and was an Irvington Housing Authority commissioner for six years. From 2002 to 2009, he was employed by the Irvington Board of Education as an administrative assistant at Irvington High School's Alternative Program. He served on the Irvington Board of Adjustments for four years. Edward was the devoted husband of Carmen, whom he loved with all his heart; devoted father of Geran, Diane, and his adopted daughter, Cookie; dear brother of Kenny, Edward (Butch), Carolyn and Vivian; he also leaves a very dear and loving family who became his family, Vivian, Jasmine and Lillian. Edward was also the loving uncle of Trina, Kenyetta, Keysha, Ebony, Madison, Kenneth Jr., Brian, Vernon, Jemal, RaaShaun, Logan, Nathaniel, Lena and Betty, and dear friend of David Lions, David Hammond, Priscella Fuller, Desmon and Ed Young.
