DUFFY Honorable Neil G. Duffy Superior Court judge, attorney, WWII vet, 90, The Honorable Neil G. Duffy, 90, of Monmouth Beach died on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, in Overlook Hospital, Summit. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Philomenas Church, 386 S. Livingston Ave., Livingston, on Wednesday, Jan. 3, at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Orange. Visitation will be held at the Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave., Maplewood, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. For more information or to send condolences, please visit jacobhollefuneralhome.com. Born in Newark, Judge Duffy lived in Maplewood, Chatham and Monmouth Beach. He retired in 2002 from the law office of Neil G. Duffy III, Esq. in Union, where he was an attorney since 1992. During his public service, Judge Duffy was elected as a member of the New Jersey State Assembly from Essex County from 1952 to 1953 and was a threetime elected sheriff of Essex County from 1953 to 1961. He was a member of the New Jersey State Division of Tax Appeals from 1961 to 1963. Judge Duffy was appointed a Superior Court judge for the State of New Jersey from 1963 to 1981, and served as presiding judge of the Family Part, Essex County Vicinage. From 1982 to 1984, he was administrative judge for the Waterfront Commission for the New York Harbor and was general counsel for the North Jersey District Water Supply Commission from 1983 to 1987. He was a member of the State Merit System Board from 1993 to 1996. During his professional career, Judge Duffy was a member of the law firm of Vreeland, Aeschbach and Duffy from 1948 to 1963, was general counsel to the Triumph Federal Savings and Loan Association from 1955 to 1963. He was of counsel to the law firm of Irwin, Post and Rosen from 1981 to 1986. He was a member of the board of trustees at Caldwell College and of East Orange General Hospital. A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army with the Army Counterintelligence Corp. and was a member of the American Legion Post 10, where he served as commander and judge advocate. Judge Duffy earned a bachelors degree from Rutgers University in Newark and his J.D. degree from Rutgers Law School, formerly the Newark Law School. He was the beloved husband of the late Marion Morris Duffy; the devoted father of Betty Ann Brennan, Eileen D. Cameron and Neil G. Duffy III, Esq.; dear brother of William J. Duffy, M.D., and the late Eileen Spillane and John Duffy; the loving grandfather of Michael, Christopher, Timothy, Meghan and Stephen.
