Obituary of Sophie Mazur Strat

Mrs. Sophie Mazur Strat, 93, of Maplewood died on Saturday, June 2, 2007, at the Winchester Gardens, Maplewood. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Ave., South Orange, on Wednesday, June 6, at 12:15 p.m. Interment is at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Orange. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
Born in Newark, Mrs. Strat lived in Irvington and Livingston before moving to Maplewood five years ago. She owned and operated Mazurs Tavern, Irvington, from the 1960s to the 1980s before retiring. She also worked for the Internal Revenue Service in the 1950s. Mrs. Strat was a member of the Maplewood Womens Club, the Kosciuszko Foundation in New York City, and the Livingston Historical Society.
She was the wife of the late Edmund Strat, and sister of the late Stephen, Stanley, Edward Mazur and Helen Swan. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
