Mrs. Lois Smith (nee Boehm), 78, of Maplewood died Wednesday, June 27, 2007, in St. Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave., Maplewood, on Saturday, June 30, at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Hollywood Memorial Park, Union. Born in Newark, Mrs. Smith was a lifelong resident of Maplewood. She was a homemaker and was a founder, with Gene McNany, of the Maplewood Community Pool in the mid-1960s. Active in the Republican Party in Essex County, she served as an alternate delegate at the 1968 Republican Convention, vice chairwoman of the Essex County Republican Organization and as commissioner of elections. Mrs. Smith was honored to have met Mamie Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon, among other political figures.
She was the beloved wife of Russell R. Smith Jr; devoted mother of Russell R. Smith III, Susan J. Strong-Ribnik and her husband, Ron, and Nancy L. Dahmer; dear sister of Barbara Catalano and the late Jack Boehm, and loving grandmother of Emily Ribnik.
