John L. Stier, 83, of Raritan, formerly of Hillsborough, died on Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at the Somerset Medical Center, Somerville. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Good Shepherd Parish, 285 Nesbit Terr., Irvington, on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Orange. Visitation will be held at the Preston Funeral Home, 153 S. Orange Ave., South Orange, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. only. Born in Newark, Mr. Stier lived in Hillsborough before moving to Raritan three years ago. He was a maintenance worker for R.C.A. in Raritan from 1970 to 1994, when he retired. Earlier, he was a jet engine mechanic for Eastern Airlines in Newark from 1950 to 1970. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Stier was a member of the V.F.W. in Somerville and the Elks in Manville.
He was the beloved husband of the late Mae Ann Johnson Stier; devoted father of Kathleen M. DeCanto, Jeffrey J., John L. Jr., and the late Thomas J. Stier; dear brother of the late Raymond C. and George Stier; loving grandfather of Anthony and Candice DeCanto and Jeffrey Jr., Taylor and Kelly Stier.
