Obituary of Richard A. Smithmeyer

Richard A. Smithmeyer, born on May 13, 1931, passed away Monday, April 28, 2008. A graveside service will be held at Acacia Cemetery, Buffalo, N.Y., at a later date. Arrangements are by the Preston Funeral Home, South Orange.
After graduating from the University of Buffalo, Dick became a pilot in the USAF and achieved the rank of major before retiring. Dick was a longtime resident of Buffalo, N.Y., and Irvington, N.J., and a member of the Elks and the McGuire Air Force Flying Club. He will be remembered for his service to his country and his love of flying. He had a quick wit and sense of humor and supported many charitable causes.
Dick had a great love for his late parents, John and Esther. He is survived by a daughter, Kathryn Butterfield and her husband, Eric, and their two sons, of Georgia; a sister, Kathleen Mook of California; brothers, Jack and Paul Smithmeyer of Florida; many nieces, nephews and good friends. He will be missed by all.
