Rita Burke Lanigan, 83, of Maplewood died on Monday, April 27, 2009, at home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St., South Orange, on Friday, May 1, at 9:30 a.m. Interment is in St. Teresa's Cemetery, Summit. Visitation will be held at the Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave., Maplewood, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. For more information or to send condolences, please visit jacobhollefuneral home.com.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Lanigan lived in Maplewood for 39 years. She held a B.S. in nursing from Mt. St. Vincent College, N.Y. She was a homemaker and a member of Maplewood Little Club and a member and past president of Women's Guild of Seton Hall University, South Orange. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, South Orange, and a volunteer for American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Lanigan was the beloved wife for 60 years to Eugene D. Lanigan; devoted mother of Daniel R. Lanigan, Joan L. Strauss and the late Janet M. Lanigan, and dear sister of Veronica McDonnell, Richard and Thomas Burke
