Obituary of Joan W. Stewart

Joan Witte Stewart, 74, of Maplewood, died June 12, 2009, at Overlook Hospital, Summit. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave., Maplewood, on Monday, June 15, at 11 a.m. Interment is private. Visiting hours are Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. Born in Newark, N.J., Mrs. Stewart was a lifelong resident of Maplewood. She worked for the Maplewood-South Orange Board of Education as a secretary for the athletic department at Columbia High School in Maplewood, from 1971 to 2005, before retiring. Mrs. Stewart was a volunteer at Maplewood-South Orange First Night, and the Maplewood Library. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard Stewart; devoted mother of Eleanor Vogler and her husband, Gregory, and Eileen Hopton and her husband, Keith; loving grandmother of Kathleen M. Vogler, and dear sister of Carol DeLong. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Maplewood Memorial Library, 51 Baker St., Maplewood, N.J. 07040, would be appreciated.
