Albert Louis Chaump, 93 Albert Chaump, 93, of South Orange, passed away on Saturday, June 20, at St. Cloud Nursing Home in West Orange after a brief illness. A life-long resident of South Orange, Albert was born in 1915 to Ralph and Concetta Chaump of Pittston, Pennsylvania. As a young man, he moved to South Orange and became a parishioner at Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church. In 1940, Albert married Antoinette Mercadante, and two years later, became a father to the couple's first son, Ralph. Albert and Antoinette's family soon grew to include two more sons, Joseph and Albert, Jr. Albert started his career at Orange Roller Bearing, a company he served with distinction for 30 years. He then worked for the South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education for 15 years, before retiring to enjoy quality time with his growing family. Albert was a member of the Society Savoia Club in South Orange for nearly 70 years, and during this time, served as the Club's secretary for many years. Albert was predeceased by his beloved wife, Antoinette; his brother, Joseph; and two sisters, Rose Spero and Arbida Neare. He is survived by his three sons, Ralph and his wife Dorothy of Lakewood, NJ; Joseph and his wife Mary Lou of Chester, NJ; and Albert, Jr. and his wife Lucille of Oceanport, NJ; five grandchildren, Theresa Kerekgyarto, Ralph Chaump, Jr., Matthew Chaump, Michael Chaump, and Lauren Chaump; and three great-grandchildren, Ryan and Tyler Kerekgyarto, and Carmen Leah Chaump. Also surviving is Albert's sister, Helen Rizzo of Rhode Island. Albert was known for his tremendously big heart. He loved his family and was an inspiration to many. Through his kindness, his gentleness, and his giving spirit, he touched many people. Albert was truly loved and will be dearly missed. A Funeral Mass will be offered at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect Street, South Orange. On Thur, June 25th at 9:30 AM. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery, E. Hanover. Visitation will be held at Preston Funeral home 153 South Orange Ave, South Orange on Wed 3;00-7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made in Albert's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105, www.stjude.org.
