Michael Capano, 83, of South Orange died suddenly on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009 at home.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St., South Orange, on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 9:30 a.m. Interment is in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Visitation will be held at Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Ave., South Orange, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. For more information, please visit www.prestonfuneral home.net.
Born in Newark on Sept. 11, 1925 to Italian immigrant parents, Mr. Capano was a longtime resident of South Orange. He received an electrical engineering degree from Stevens Institute of Technology and was a sales engineer for General Electric and Fedders for 38 years before retiring. Mr. Capano was a World War II Army veteran who served in the European Theater and was awarded a Bronze Star. He was an usher at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, and a volunteer at the Morris Museum and the South Orange Board of Elections.
He was the beloved husband of Maryann Paglia Capano; dear brother of Angelina Capano and the late Louis Capano and Carmella Buinno; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
