Mary M. Roberts Mother of six and avid golfer Mary Mulford Roberts, 88 (Mrs. Richard H.) of Toms River, formerly of Short Hills, N.J. (50 years) passed away on Mothers Day, March 13, 2012 at Community Medical Center in Toms River. Mary was the only child of Dr. Albert and Mary Mulford on March 17, 1924 in Philadelphia, Pa. As a young child she grew up around horses often riding her favorite, "Marie". She also enjoyed her summers in Island Heights, N.J. racing her locally crafted Snipe Sail Boat up and down Toms River often bringing home a trophy. Predeceased by her husband, Richard H. Roberts, M.D., Mary leaves behind to cherish her memory six children; Susan (Mack) Richey of Seattle, Wa., Richard H. Jr., (Joanne) of Wenatchee, Wa., Kathryn (Robert) Hansson of Toms River, Allen M. (Kathleen) of Chalfont, Pa., Virginia (Frank) Reilly of Atlanta, Ga. and J. Michael (MaryEllen) of Short Hills, N.J. Fifteen Grandchildren and Four Great Grandchildren. Mary attended Smith College in Massachusetts before settling down to raise her children. Later in life, Mrs. Roberts graduated first in her nursing class at Overlook Hospital LPN School in Summit, N.J. in 1971. She worked for many years in orthopedics at Overlook and continued to volunteer after retirement. During her spare time she became and avid golfer several times a week at Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield where she and her husband were members for more than 25 years. Family and friends are invited to gather at The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Avenue, Maplewood on Thur, May 17th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. A funeral service will take place at Christ Church, 66 Highland Avenue in Short Hills on Fri, May 18th at 11:00 AM. Internment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.
