Hugh F. McNulty, Jr. (Big Mac) Mac was born in Irvington, NJ on May 7, 1935 and lived in Essex County until October 2001, when he moved to Martinsburg, WV. Mac passed away on May 31, 2012 due to heart failure. Mac married his wife Margaret (Peg) of 35 years on October 3, 1976. He is survived by his children Kathleen McNulty, Susan Travis, Christine Nelson, Thomas McNulty, Jean Santucci and Raymond Nelson, and predeceased by his first wife Kathleen McNulty and sons Hugh McNulty III and James Nelson. Mac is also survived by his grandchildren, Ryan, Eric and Keri Travis, Jennifer Santucci, Kaitlyn Hulse, Sean Nelson, Rose and Thomas McNulty, Samantha Santucci, Raymond Nelson, Michaela Nelson, Anthony Santucci and Nicole Nelson. As well as daughter-in-law Diane Nelson and niece Bonnie Schuh. He attended Sacred Heart School followed by Seton Hall Prep. After graduating high school he enlisted in the Marine Corp and served in the Korean War. Upon leaving the Marine Corp Mac attended the Police Academy and served as a Newark Police Officer for 30 years then as a Court Security Officer under the U.S. Marshal=s Service for 13 years. As a young man Mac was very active in scouting and attained the high rank of Eagle Scout. He was a member of scouting=s Order of the Arrow and was also Scoutmaster of Troop 62, Newark New Jersey. Mac is a Charter Member of the Emerald Society, Essex County Chapter #1; Fraternal Order of Police Newark Lodge No. 12; Marine Corp League, West Hudson Detachment; NJ State Retired Police and Firemans Association, Essex County, Local #1; Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 120, Martinsburg, WV, Knights of Columbus, Council #1169 Martinsburg, WV, and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Post 2856, Livingston, NJ. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Mac's memory to St Joseph Church, 336 S. Queen Street, Martinsburg, WV 25401. There is a Buddhist saying: When you die, if people say bad things about you, you have surely gone to Hell; but if they say good things about you, you will live forever. A Chinese saying: We are keenly aware of the faults of our friends, but if they like us enough it doesn't matter.
