Mary Patricia Schubert of Alexandria, VA passed away quietly at home on September 20, 2010 in the arms of her twin sister, Paula. Ms. Schubert, a graduate of the Georgetown University School of Nursing Class of 1985, was a resident of Alexandria, VA for 19 years. Patricia was predeceased by her parents Winifred and Walter Schubert. She is survived by her brothers Walter, Joe (Debbie), her sisters Paula Schubert, Maria Saltonstall and Margaret (Paul) Sullivan. She also leaves behind her nephews Jack, Matthew, Andrew, Ryan and Tim, over one hundred aunts, uncles and cousins, and her "second mother", Odessa Ingram.
Tricia's life mission was to serve those in need. She was actively involved in the community and nonprofit organizations. She thoroughly enjoyed her love for oncology and for over the next 20 years, she expanded her career to the fields of infectious diseases, clinical research and trials, emergency room medicine, and operating room nursing. In the community, Tricia was President of the Inner City Civic Association from 2005 through 2007 and was honored for her leadership, commitment, and unwavering loyalty to the Alexandria Police Department and Inner City Civic Association. Additionally, Tricia served as President of the Carriage Works Association Complex for 17 years. Moreover, she worked to improve the community of Alexandria, VA through her continuous efforts with the City Council and Mayor's office.
Her compassion for supporting others in need led her to the Jatukik Providence Foundation and Father Jean Claude Atusameso. She originally became involved with the Jatukik Providence Foundation in 2004 when she was paired with Father Jean Claude Atusameso to teach him English through another organization. After retiring from her nursing career, she was the President of the Board of Directors for the Jatukik Providence Foundation serving in this capacity until the time of her death.
The family will celebrate her journey of love by accepting visitors at the Preston Funeral Home 153 South Orange Ave, South Orange on Friday, Sept 24th 6:00 � 9:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St., South Orange on Saturday at 10:00 AM. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery, E. Hanover.
