Brodo --- On December 5, 2010 Robert W. Brodo of Maplewood died at St. Barnabas Hospital, Livingston.
Visitation will be held at The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home 2122 Millburn Ave, Maplewood on Wednesday, 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Interment Private. A Memorial Service will be held at Prospect Presbyterian Church, 646 Prospect St., Maplewood on Sat, Dec 11th at 1:30 PM. Robert William Brodo was born to Aniello and Laura Brodo on November 4, 1927 in East Orange. He graduated from East Orange High School where he met Betty Koelble, His wife of 57 years. He received his B.A. in Elementary Education from Jersey City State College ( now New Jersey City University) and his M.A. from Seton Hall University. He also obtained the credits for his Supervisors Certificate from Seton Hall.
He started his teaching career in Nutley, then moved to the Newark School System where he taught for many years until he became Vice Principal, first at Avon Avenue School and then Madison Avenue School. Bob also taught English as a second language (ESL) classes at night.
As a member of Kilburn Presbyterian Church in Vailsburg, Bob served as Sunday School Superindendent, Cub Scout leader, Deacon, President of the Board of Trustees, and Ruling Elder.
Upon moving to Maplewood, he joined Prospect Presbyterian Church where he served on the Christian Education Committee.
Bob belonged to the Newark Schoolman's Club and was President of the Benedette Croce Society. He was a member of Essex Lodge # 7 NJF& A Masons, serving as Master five times. He also served on the Grand Staff of New Jersey as Grand chaplain. He belonged to Maple Chapter # 55, Royal Arch Mason, Lodge Council Chapter Consistory of the Valley of North New Jersey, (Scottish Rite), Salaam Temple, Shriners International, and Caldwell Chapter # 61, Order of the Eastern Star of New Jersey.
He also was a member of CASA-R, Essex County Retired Teachers Association and AARP. Bob and Betty were avid Jazz fans and were members of the New Jersey Jazz Society
He is survived by his beloved wife Betty, son Robert C., daughter Beth DeFelice and her husband Al, grandson Jason M. Brodo and two sisters, Mary Procita and her husband Joe and Geri Mager and her husband Ed. .
