Joseph A. Clarken Jr., 81, of Summit, N.J., formerly of Short Hills, N.J., died on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, in Overlook Medical Center, Summit. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 306 Morris Ave, Summit, on Monday, May 23, at 10:45 a.m. Interment is in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J. Visitation will be held at The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave., Maplewood, N.J., on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. For more information or to send condolences, please visit jacobhollefuneralhome.com. Born in Newark, N.J., Mr. Clarken resided in Short Hills before moving to Summit 25 years ago. He was secretary and general counsel for the International Terminal Operating Co. Inc., (I.T.O.) in Jersey City from 1990 until retiring in 2000. Mr. Clarken was previously an attorney at the Cox and Walberg Law Firm in Newark, N.J., then at Gassert and Murphy in Newark. He was also a partner in the law firm, Fox, Schachner, Masterangelo and Clarken in Newark. Mr. Clarken was a graduate of Cranwell Prep, Lenox, Mass.; Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., and the Columbia University Law School, New York City. He was the beloved father of Joseph A. Clarken III and Elizabeth Donaghy; loving grandfather of Ava Donaghy, and dear brother of Mary Louise Clarken, Angela Schmidt and Elizabeth Clarken.
