Obituary of Sr. Helene Foley

Sr.Helene Foley, a Sister of Christian Charity, 92 died Saturday, May 21, 2011 at her convent, Our Lady of Sorrows in So.Orange, NJ. Sister was a native of the Bronx, NY and a member of the Sisters of Christian Charity for 75 years. Sister entered the convent on Aug.28, 1936, received the holy habit Aug.21, 1937 and made her perpetual profession Aug.20, 1945.She spread Christ's Love through the charism of Blessed Pauline vonMallinckrodt teaching in various schools in PA and NJ. For many years she was a directress of the high school girls who studied and lived at the Motherhouse of the Sisters. Following these years Sister traveled to St. Louis, Missouri to teach at Marillac College and to be the directress of the community's young sisters studying at the college. Sister also taught Theology at Assumption College for Sisters located in the Motherhouse of the Sisters and for some time she was the dean of the college. Sister Helene is predeceased by her parents, Michael and Mary Foley and her three brothers, Raymond, Michael and William Foley.Living are her two sisters, Helen Brennan, and Margie Smith plus numerous nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. Relatives and Friends are invited to be received at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St., South Orange on Tuesday, May 24th from 2-4 & 7 – 9 PM, Vespers are prayed at 3:30pm and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 25th at 10:30am In lieu of flowers donations, in Sister's name may be made to the Sisters of Christian Charity, 350 Bernardsville Rd., Mendham, NJ, 07945 Arrangements by The Preston Funeral Home, South Orange
