Mr Childs was born in Brookly, NY and lived in Watchung and was formerly of Scotch Plains/ Fanwood and Williamsburg VA. Mr. Childs graduated from Brown University in 1939 with a B.A. and Harvard Law School in 1947 with a J.D. He was in the Army during World War II from 1942-46 and retired as a Major in the Reserves. For over thirty three years Mr Childs was an attorney for various subsidiaries of Western Electric in New York City and finished his career as General Solicitor. He was a member of the American Bar and the New York Bar Associations. Mr. Childs lived life to the fullest, he was an avid runner until his 80's, a golfer til his 90's, a skier, a world traveller, a dancer, a life long student ...he went back to law school to sharpen up his law at age 85. He measured life by his friends and wanted many many in that circle....Uncle Carter, my friend Carter ....his everyday was marked by cards to send and calls to make. To his nieces and nephews he was a cherished uncle, to the DiGioacchino family he was a family favorite, to his children a source of endless inspiration, to his grandchildren a most wonderful grandpa, to his friends a reason to smile and the source of the warmest of hugs. Mr. Childs was devoted to his Catholic faith, he became a Fourth Degree Knight and was active in the Knights of Columbus in many cities. His wife, stricken by Alzheimers, was his true love....and he was faithful in his daily visits to her over many years. We will all miss Carter, but most especially on Saint Patricks', singing When Irish Eyes are Smiling... He was the beloved husband of Madeline DiGioacchino Childs, devoted father of Colleen Mullens, John Childs, and the late Doris Maney, and loving grandfather of Carter and Stuart Childs.
