Obituary of Jean R. Fortier

Jean Robert Fortier, 83, a 13-year resident of Florham Park, N.J., formerly of South Orange, N.J., died on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at the Department of Veterans Affairs NJ Healthcare Facility in East Orange, N.J.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at Maplewood Bible Chapel, 127 Burnett Ave., Maplewood, N.J. 07040 on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 10 a.m. Interment is at Restland Memorial Park, East Hanover, N.J. Visitation will be held at Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Ave., South Orange, N.J., on Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mr. Fortier was born in Ashland, Wis. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in mechanical engineering and served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, achieving with the rank of corporal. Mr. Fortier worked as a mechanical engineer for both Westinghouse and Federal Pacific Electric companies. During that time, he earned seven patents. Mr. Fortier served as an elder at the Maplewood Bible Chapel, where he spent much of his time involved with the children's ministry.
He was the beloved husband of the late Jacqueline Cochran Fortier; devoted father of Anita VanWagner, Carol Gaynor, Diane Travers and Linda Zych; loving grandfather of 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
