Just learning now that my close friend Jim Sheil - with whom I worked closely , covering the cities of East Orange and Orange, N.J. for years, while I was reporter for the Star Ledger, passed away more than a year ago. I am devastated. I had tried emailing and calling him and wondering what why his phone was disconnected. I had planned on treating him to see singer Ronnie Spector's Christmas show at BB Kings in Manhattan, Saturday night. When I called up the work number, I realized someone else now has that number. Then I did an internet search. Oh my God. I am so upset. I had no idea. My belated condolences to the family. I left the Ledger six years ago this month, amid major job buyouts there. I know I spoke to his mom, once or twice, on the telephone and Brian and I met years ago, when he was with an KABC show in Los Angeles (Matt and Mindy?), and then, with Jim, a few times at the old Rascals comedy club in West Orange.

Mr. & Mrs. Sheil,
I was saddened to read about the passing of Jimmy this morning in the Star Ledger. When someone we love passes away, it's hard for others, to find the words to let you know how deeply we feel for you. Awhile ago, I read something in a book - the author said "And in this life, nothing good is ever lost. It stays part of a person, becomes part of their character." It’s difficult to lose a child, but all of your memories, will be a part of you forever.
I remember babysitting your children as a teenager, and they were all so different. Jim will always be “Jimmy” to me, and my memories of him are being much more mischievous than the others. As an adult, I can now chuckle at his antics, but when I was a kid, he definitely tested my patience, and now those memories bring a smile to my face.
