Dear Molly, Lucille & Mimmo, Meredith & Mark --
I share your sadness at John's too-early passing. He was a gem: smart, funny, classy, opinionated and generous to others.
Know you are proud of him and what he added to all our lives! I remember his kindness to us and our family, in addition to his Opera Room and Bucky the dog in Maplewood, where we house-sat one summer, escaping our apartment in NYC. I will always have fond memories of John, who was very kind to me and our children.

Molly and Family,
My memory goes back to when our family lived in Mountain Lakes, N.J. in the 70's and we met the Grillos family through Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. I am so glad I was able to see John again at the TTKA International Convention in Baltimore this time last year with our good friend Art Warner. I am thankful for being able to contribute to the John J. Grillos scholarship- Pi Kappa Alpha Foundation.
Faith, Love, and Hope..Once a Pike, Always a Pike.

To the Grillos family I extend my deepest condolences. John was an extraordinary individual. Every Seton Hall Pike owes a strong measure of gratitude for John's efforts in the fruition of an outstanding colony/chapter. I am so proud to be considered his brother.

It is rare for a person to enter your life and make an indelible imprint on your spirit. John Grillos was such a friend to me.
While working with him at A.M. Best, his support and guidance in furthering my career was always present.
His stellar personality and infectious sharp wit was a constant entertainment.
Over the years, our friendship continued with another A.M. Best cohort, Ann Marie. These friend lunches and dinners were more like the adventures of the three musketeers, sharing good times and ever-present laughter, always picking up where we last left off.
John’s passing has left me with a sense of emptiness and sadness. I can only say that every time Ann Marie and I meet for lunch, or I drink a Manhattan, I will think of him.

To Molly and the entire Grillos family, our heart felt sympathy.
Mickey just met John this past winter when we all attended an SHU game, in Brooklyn, together. And, she thought he was great. I had the privilege of knowing him for 50 years from when we both first ran for student government.
We shared ironic senses of humor; similar political activities; sometimes grated on the others' nerves; but, always remained friends and brothers. He was a friend where the conversation just picked up again, after years, as if it were yesterday when it had paused. I always found him glad to help people; but, not wanting too much publicity about it.
Mark Twain once wrote "Let us endeavor so to live that when we come to die even the undertaker will be sorry!" I think John accomplished that. I'm glad God let him pass my way. I'm better for it. And, I'll be sending a donation to help endow his memorial scholarship fund at the Pike Foundation

To the Grillos family. My deepest condolences. Brother John was an inspiration and a kind person whom I will always remember. He inspired others to join him in starting a great fraternity chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha at Seton Hall University. I cherish my memories of John and Diane and all of our great brothers.
Amen and Rest in Peace, John.
