Ray was an extraordinary mentor and friend--always professional and extraordinarily wise. He generously set me on my career in academia while I worked for him by recommending me to Vivian Cipolla to join undergrad admissions at NYU. We all loved him, learned from him, respected and admired him. He changed so many lives for the better.

Ray was a very nice man who loved the sport of Harness Racing. I have many articles he wrote about my husband Ted in the early 1980's. I met him a few times and he was always smiling. I worked with Chris's mother-in-law Madeline from Glen Rock. Sincere condolences to the family. May he rest in peace.

Ray was one of my all-time favorite newspaper people. I first met him in 1961, when I was attending Rutgers-Newark and working for the Newark Star-Ledger. Even though I worked for the competition, Ray took time out to teach me the ropes when I was given the assignment to write about harness racing. His guidance and wisdom made my job infinitely easier, and from then on for the next 40 years, I looked up to him as the professional standard of excellence. And that was only his part-time job!
A wonderful man, a wonderful teacher and friend. I will miss him.

So sorry to hear of Mr. Brienza's passing. I always think of him because of his Dan Patch painting and my living and working next to where Dan Patch was from, Savage, MN and all the Dan Patch stores, so named. My prayers and thoughts are with the Brienza family. God bless.
