My condlences to the Friend family on your loss. I had the pleasure of working with Lloyd for many years at Bell Labs, until my retirement in 1998. I was shocked to hear of Lloyd's untimely passing. Dear Pattie: I'm sending my heartfelt sympathy to you and Patrick and Biff. It will be hard after all these years to live without your best friend and husband. Patti It is shortly after 8:00am here in Pasadena with a gentle rain and snow on the mountains. I am remembering Short Hills and walking through St Roses with Nina Greer, Sue Carton and Gigi Hamilton on our way to MHS. And I am thinking about Lloyd's arrival at MHS, this big, yet gentle guy, quick to laugh,a friend to everyone. Rather than us welcoming him, he seemed to welcome us into his world. It has been a long time since we have seen you but, this morning especially there are so many wonderful memories. Tom and I will keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers. He was a warm and wonderful person and one we will remember fondly.

Lloyd and I started at Bell Labs, Holmdel, about the same time (1969) and shared office space for the first few years, along with John Mistrek and Fulton Wilcox. While we lost touch, I will always value those friendships. My condolences to Lloyd's family and friends.
