Joseph W. Gessner, 58, of Roseland, N.J., died on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, N.J.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady Of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St., South Orange, N.J., on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 10:30 a.m. Interment is in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J. Visitation will be held at Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Ave., South Orange, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. For more information please visit prestonfuneralhome.net
Born in Montclair, N.J., Mr. Gessner lived in South Orange, N.J., before moving to Roseland nine years ago. He was a union carpenter employed with Local 254 in Edison, N.J., formerly Local 620, since 1980. Mr. Gessner was a member of the Springfield Elks.
He was the beloved husband of Valerie Mauriello; devoted father of Michael J. Gessner and his wife, Fabiola, and Joseph N. Gessner; dear brother of Deborah Johansson-Schubert; loving grandfather of Seth and Jayden Gessner. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including Melody and the late Carrieanne Johansson.
