Obituary of Arline Gehrhardt Thierry

On July 10, 2014, Arline G. Thierry (86) departed this world peacefully in Tampa, Florida with her oldest son Dick, daughters Susanne and Marie, and one of 14 grandchildren, Shannon Thierry, by her side. She was spiritually surrounded by her loving family with whom she was able to spend precious time with just weeks before she passed. Arline was born in Brooklyn, New York, on September 15, 1927 to Fred and Marie (Schmidt) Gehrhardt. Sincerely devout in her faith, she attended St. Agnes Seminary. After a brief pursuit in modeling, she met Theodore Richard Thierry Jr. "Ted", at Breezy Point in Rockaway, NY. They were married August 19, 1950, and lived in Manhattan before settling in Short Hills, New Jersey, where they raised nine children. As the family grew and left home, Arline returned to what she enjoyed most--children, as a teacher's aide in the Millburn Township Public Schools. She also served as a volunteer at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ. Arline later resided in Roseland, NJ, where she spent many years with close friends before moving to Tampa, FL. Arline is predeceased by her husband, Ted, infant twins, Joseph and Gerard, and brother Hank. She is survived by her sons, Dick (Lorraine) and Tom(Cindy), daughters Diane(Karl), Lorraine, Susie, Janine(Jeff), Marie(Bob), Joanne, Eileen, and her 14 grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 50 Short Hills Ave, Short Hills, NJ, on Friday, September 5, 2014 at 11:15 a.m. A reception will immediately follow. Please join us as we celebrate and honor Arline and how she touched so many lives in a very special way. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Interment will be private.
