Alice May Dickson Jamaica-born mother and grandmother Alice May Dickson (nee Shim) of West Orange, N.J., formerly of Irvington, N.J., died at the Summit Ridge Nursing Home, West Orange, on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014 . Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Ave., South Orange, on Friday, Jan. 9, at 11 a.m. followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J. Mrs. Dickson was born in Bellas Gate, St. Catherine, Jamaica, W.I., to the late Ernest Shim and Vernice McCalla. She lived in New Jersey for nearly 50 years. She for many years worked at Ohaus Scale in Florham Park, N.J., as an assembler before retiring in 1999. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Roy Dickson, and daughter Carol. She is survived by members of her loving family, daughter Madge and husband Mark Thomas of Vauxhall, N.J.; daughter Maureen and husband Gregory Tobin of West Orange; son Earl and wife Sandra Dickson of West Orange, and sister Florence and husband Owen Powell of Southfield, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. Alice Dickson was grandmother to Shayna and husband Thevenet Gayle, Justin and wife Chevaughn Thomas, Patrick and Bryan Tobin and Arian Dickson and great-grandmother to Jaiden and Cheyenne Thomas.
