Obituary of William E. Gury

William E. Gury USMC veteran and South Orange resident since boyhood, 79 William E. Gury, 79, passed away on Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at the Phillipsburg Care Center in Phillipsburg, N.J. Visitation will be held at the Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Ave., South Orange, on Wednesday, Jan. 21, from 4 to 7 p.m., followed immediately by a service at 7 p.m. Interment is private. Born in Orange, N.J., William was a 75-year resident of South Orange, N.J., before moving to Hunterdon County, N.J., five years ago. In 1953, William graduated from Columbia High School in Maplewood, N.J., and went on to receive a B.A. in business from Davis and Elkins College in West Virginia. He served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1957 to 1967. Before retirement, he was employed for many years as a recruiter for Sales Consultants of Summit, N.J. William was the father Laura Rocca and LeeAnne DeJong, and the grandfather of David and Thomas Rocca, and Courtney, James, and Reid DeJong. He is also survived by Margaret Macaulay Gury.
