Vincent J. Ryan, 80, of Maplewood, N.J., passed on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, at Care One in Livingston, N.J. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St., South Orange, N.J., on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 9:30 a.m. Interment: Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J. Visitation will be held at The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave., Maplewood on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. For more information or to send condolences, please visit jacobhollefuneralhome.com. Vincent graduated from Seton Hall University with a B.A. in Education in 1958. He played baskteball there from 1954 to 1958, including being on the 1956 and 1957 NIT teams. He was known around Maplewood for his foul shooting prowess, including making 100 in a row on numerous occasions. Vincent resided in Maplewood for 57 years, and was an active parishioner and usher, first at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Maplewood, for many years, and at Our Lady of Sorrows for the last 10 years. He was a physical education teacher with the Newark Board of Education and also Immaculate Heart of Mary and St. Joseph's schools in Maplewood for many years before retiring. He coached girls softball/basketball at Vailsburg H.S. many years ago. Vincent was the beloved husband of of the late Kathleen Fenton Ryan; devoted father of Sheila Williams (Andrew), Kathleen Edward (Bill), Marianne Ryan, Eileen McCallum, Vincent J. Ryan Jr. (Jill), Lori Stopielo (Michael); loving grandfather of Casey, Tara, Morgan, Timothy, Jack, Connor, Carly, Taylor, Olivia, Lindsey, and Peyton, and dear brother of Mary Gladys Giordano and Lucille Elizabeth Gaydosh
