Margaret J. Amon (nee Hopta), 87, of Maplewood, N.J., died at St. Barnabas Medical Center on Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, surrounded by her family. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St., South Orange, N.J., on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will be at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union, N.J. Visitation will be held at the Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave., Maplewood, on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. For more information, or to send condolences, please visit jacobhollefuneralhome.com. Born in Newark, N.J., "Margie" lived in Maplewood for the past 60 years. She lived with her son and his family for the past 22 years and enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up. She loved doing the daily crossword puzzle and watching crime shows and "Judge Judy." Margie was known far and wide for her handiwork, knitting sweaters and blankets and creating over 230 themed pillows for family and friends, all personalized in some unique way. Margie also knitted 700 hats for children wih critical illness, donating them to the Valerie Fund and other charities. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph I. Amon; devoted mother of Joseph C. Amon and his wife, Ellen, and loving grandmother of Joseph W., Laura M., and Allison M. Amon. Margie is also survived by her sisters, Maryann Tierney, Julia Szymanski, and Virginia Fernandes, sister-in-law Patricia DeAngelis, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Irene Kohl and Dorothy Shevlin, and her brother, Charles Hopta. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
