Obituary of Patrica A. Shelffo

Patricia Ann “Pat” Shelffo, 86, of Maplewood, passed into eternal rest on August 23, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. A memorial mass will be celebrated at noon on Monday, August 28, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect Street, South Orange. A gathering will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Ave., South Orange. Pat’s husband of 49 years, the late Loren E. Shelffo, passed away in 2004. Born in Atlantic, Iowa, Pat was the daughter of the late Charles and Frances (O’Connor) Thompson. A resident of South Orange and Maplewood for 45 years, Pat was the founder of the Newcomers Club of Maplewood/South Orange, a testament to her love of her friends and neighbors. She worked in the Academic Affairs Office at Seton Hall University for 20 years, until she retired in 2004. Pat was a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, beloved by all. Her fondest moments were spent with her children and grandchildren and she often remarked how blessed she was to have such a wonderful family. She is survived by her six children. Julie Shelffo and her husband, John Margold, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; Dan Shelffo and his wife Kathy of South Orange; Chris Shelffo of Maplewood; Tim Shelffo and his wife Kristen of Chatham; Andrew Shelffo of Easthampton, Mass.; and Joan Smith and her husband Sherwood of Damascus, Md. Pat had fifteen grandchildren, one great-grandson, with another on way.
