MCTERNAN John F. McTernan Resident of Maplewood, 86 Army veteran of World War II John F. McTernan, 86, of Maplewood died on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007, at home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Josephs Church, 767 Prospect St., Maplewood, on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Visitation will be held at the Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave., Maplewood, on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. only. Before retiring, Mr. McTernan was an assistant district director for the U.S. Immigration & Naturalization Service, Newark, where he worked from 1949 to 1981. He also worked as director of Immigration Service at Catholic Community Services, Newark, from 1981 to 1995. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a sergeant with the Combat Engineers in North Africa. He was a member of VFW Post 10120, Maplewood, Disabled American Veterans, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Mr. McTernan was the beloved husband of Mary Elizabeth Siebert McTernan and the late Margaret E. McTernan; devoted father of Kevin and his wife Nancy Coppola, Robert and his wife JoAnn, Maureen and her husband Donald Kaplan, John F. and his wife Jackie, and the late Daniel McTernan; stepfather of Christopher Delaney and his wife Lisa. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Johns Church, 22 Mulberry St., Newark, N.J. 07102, would be greatly appreciated.
