Obituary of Raymond A. Burkhardt

Raymond A. Burkhardt, 76, of South Orange died on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, in Department of Veterans Affairs New Jersey Health Care Center at Lyons. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service at the Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Ave., South Orange, on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m. Interment will be private. Born in Union, Mr. Burkhardt lived in Maplewood before moving to South Orange 23 years ago. He was a housing inspector for the State of New Jersey before retiring. Mr. Burkhardt was a sergeant in the Army from 1951 to 1953 and a member of the Michael A. Kelly VFW Post 2433 in Union. He was the dear brother of Marie B. Connolly and William A. Burkhardt; uncle of Lucy Van Zandt and John Leonardis, and step uncle of Marybeth Henry and Jayne Costanzo. He is also survived by other nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
