Mrs. Helen Fitzgerald Prosser, 91, of Pompton Plains, formerly of Maplewood, died on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Josephs Church, 767 Prospect St., Maplewood, on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 10 a.m. Interment is at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Visitation will be held at the Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave., Maplewood, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. For more information or to send condolences, please visit jacobhollefuneralhome.com. Born in New York City, Mrs. Prosser lived in Maplewood for 75 years before moving to Pompton Plains three years ago. A homemaker, she was a past president of the Tuscan School PTA, and a Girl Scout leader and den mother, all in Maplewood. She was a member of the Citizens Budget Advisory Committee, Maplewood Civic Association and Maplewood Garden Club. Mrs. Prosser was a member of the Maplewood Senior Club since 1977, and had held every position, including club president. In 1985, she received the Essex County Senior Citizen Award for Outstanding Service, and in 2000, she received the Maple Leaf Award from the Maplewood Civic Association for outstanding community service. Maplewood Mayor Fred Profeta Jr., on behalf of the Township Committee, proclaimed Dec. 22, 2004, as Helen Prosser Day for her many years of valuable community service and for the way she touched so many lives. Mrs. Prosser had the distinction of being a member of the first graduating class of Tuscan Elementary School, Maplewood. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas C. Prosser, and devoted mother of Gerald T. Prosser, Lorraine Elliott and Robert L. Prosser. She is also survived by three grandchildren and one great-grandson.
