Henry (Hank) F.J. Skarbek Jr. of Maplewood entered into eternal rest on Sunday, June 15, 2008. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, 767 Prospect St., Maplewood, on Friday, June 20, at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be Wednesday and Thursday at The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave., Maplewood, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. To offer condolences, please go to jacobhollefuneralhome.com. Born in Paterson, Mr. Skarbek grew up in Union before moving to Maplewood 40 years ago. He worked for the Township of Maplewood for the last 20 years as an assistant to the construction official. Mr. Skarbek was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Union Council 4504 and past president of the Roseland Rotary Club. In February 2007, he was honored by the Loyola House of Retreat in Morristown with a medal for attending 50 consecutive annual retreats and was currently serving as their treasurer and promoter. Mr. Skarbek was a devoted a parishioner of St. Joseph Church, spending many hours of service as an usher, Eucharistic minister, lector and bingo worker. He also was a member of the Holy Name Society and Friday Morning Mens Prayer Group. Mr. Skarbek is survived by his wife, Ruth Mayer Skarbek; his children, Joseph D. Skarbek, Timothy M. Skarbek and Margaret Skarbek-Stefandl; his brother, Walter Skarbek; sister, Theresa Moffit, and his grandchildren, Michael, Clara, Heidi and Nathan.
