Mr. Barone was born in Orange in 1912 and lived there for most of his adult life with his wife, the former Joan Cataldo, and his two daughters. Mr. and Mrs. Barone marked their 65th wedding anniversary in May. After his retirement in 1978, the Barones moved to Middletown, where they resided until relocating to Livingston in 2004. Mr. Barone was a master of home decorating arts, specializing in painting and wallpapering, and was the owner of Ace Decorating Co. In 1970, he embarked on a second career in the field of education and became a teacher of industrial arts and assistant to the director of New Jersey Job Corps in Edison, from which he later retired. During World War II, he served in the United States Army Signal Corps and was in combat action in the Pacific Theater in Okinawa. He was later stationed in Nagasaki for a year following the end of the war. He attended Orange High School and earned his New Jersey teachers license from Jersey City State College. Mr. Barone enjoyed working around his house, especially decorating and gardening. He also enjoyed gourmet cooking and had many speciality holiday recipes. More than anything else, he enjoyed spending time with his family, said his daughter, Candace McNeece. He was devoted to his wife, his daughters and his grandchildren. He never thought of himself. His family was his joy.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; daughters, Candace McNeece and husband, Thomas, of Staten Island, N.Y., and Barbara Gist and husband, Robert, of Maplewood; three grandchildren, Tracy Gist, Amy McNeece and Robert Gist, and a brother, Henry, of Natick, Mass.
