Connolly --- William Edward Connolly, Born January 29, 1940. died on Wednesday, June 17th at home surrounded by his loving family. Relatives and friend are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church, 481 Sanford Ave, Vailsburg, Newark on Sat, Jun 20th at 10:30 AM. Interment Private. Visitation will be held at Preston Funeral Home 153 South Orange Ave, South Orange on Friday, 3:30 – 9:00 PM.For more information or to send condolences please visit prestonfuneralhome.net Bill was born in Newark and lived there and in Maplewood before moving to Point Pleasant Boro in 1992. Bill was a Patrolman with Newark Police Department from 1961-1968 and retired as Sergeant with the Essex County Sheriff's Department in 1994 after 26 years of service.He was an officer for PBA Local #183 for 10 years and State Delegate from 1971 – 1978. Bill was a 45 year member of the Essex County Emerald Society Chapter 1 and served two terms as President. He was also a member of the Emerald Society Pipe Band as a snare drummer and later served as alternate Drum Major. Bill was a member of several organizations including Union Knights of Columbus Council #4504, Elks Lodge #2151, Retired Police and Firemen's Association of N.J. Ocean Chapter 8, Newark F.O.P Lodge #12, Silver Life Member State of NJ P.B.A. Local #183, The Cryan Association and The McGovern Assoc.of Newark, The Shillelagh Club of West Orange, and The Parrot Heads of the Jersey shore. He was the son of the late William P. and Margaret Connolly of Newark and Point Pleasant. Bill is survived by his children, Kathleen Comune and her husband Patrick, William and his wife Erika, and Michael and his wife Monica; his adored grandchildren, Evin, Owen, Daniel, Quentin, and Shannon; his brother Edward Connolly and his wife Kate; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers donations to Essex County Emerald Society Scholarship Fund, 37 Columbia Avenue, Cranford, NJ 07016 would be appreciated.
