Obituary of Eleanor S. Brower

Eleanor Schanzenbach Brower, 105, passed away peacefully in her sleep in the Inglemoor Care Center, Livingston, on Monday, Dec. 7, 2009. Funeral services will be on Thursday, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m. at The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave., Maplewood, followed by interment at Hollywood Memorial Park, Union. Born in Newark, Mrs. Brower resided in Irvington for over 90 years. She received a certificate from the Newark Normal School, taught for 20 years at Newark's Peshine Avenue School, and earned a degree from Columbia University Teachers College. As a member of the Sanford Heights Presbyterian Church in Irvington, Mrs. Brower was a deacon, Missionary Society president, and served with the Church Women United Food Pantry. She was literary chairman of the local Suburban Women's Club.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 51 years, Elmore, in 1992. Eleanor is survived by her loving sons and their wives, Phil and Cheryl of Florham Park and Fred and Susan of Takoma Park, Md.; three grandchildren, Paul and his wife, Sonia, Laura and Joel, and one great-grandson, Alex.
