Theodore E. Nelson, 72, died peacefully on Feb. 18, 2010, at home in Millburn. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial prayer service at St. Rose of Lima Church, 50 Short Hills Ave., Short Hills, on Saturday, March 27, at 10 a.m. Interment will be private. Arrangements are by The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, Maplewood. Theodore "Ted" was a longtime resident of Millburn Township, where he served as a crossing guard for the Millburn Police Department Traffic Bureau for over 10 years. He most notably worked as a crossing guard on the corner of Millburn Avenue and Short Hills Avenue for the St. Rose of Lima School and Millburn High School. In addition, Ted also safely crossed parishioners at Christ Church on Highland Avenue in Short Hills for Sunday services and special events. Ted was born in Hudson County and held various industrial jobs to support his family prior to owning and managing Exxon gas stations throughout New Jersey and Florida. He finished his business career prior to joining the traffic bureau as a crossing guard, a position he held until the time of his passing. Ted is fondly remembered by the countless children, parents and parishioners he diligently crossed during his career and for his steadfast dedication to the township of Millburn. His kind and gentle demeanor earned him many friends throughout the township in his lifetime. He is survived by many friends.
