Rudolph Frank Mathias died January 8, 2011 at the home of his daughter, Charlotte Mathias Covington, in Nashville, Tennessee. He was born in Forst, Germany, coming to East Orange in 1929. He served in the Army in World War II. Rudy lived for in Maplewood for 55 years and served on the Maplewood Civic Association (recipient of the MapleLeaf Award) and the Fourth of July Committee. He was a Distinguished Member of the South Orange/Maplewood Kiwanis Club, and the NJ Kiwanis Key Club Advisor of the Year. Rudy is survived by daughters Charlotte Covington (Joel) of Nashville TN and Patricia Ferguson (Richard) of Columbus OH; five grandchildren: Joel Covington IV (Angela) of Nashville, TN, Sarah Covington-Kolb (Kenneth) of Greenville SC; Jill Gigliotti (Matthew) of Galena OH, Kate Joseph (Phill) of Cincinnati OH and Jack Scarfpin of Bowling Green OH; and six great-grandchildren. The family will be receiving friends at The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home 2122 Millburn Ave, Maplewood on Sat, March 5th from 2:00 - 4:00 PM In lieu of flowers, contributions in the name of Rudolph Mathias came be made to Maplewood Kiwanis Club c/o Jeffrey Kyle (President), 22 Fairview Terrace, Maplewood NJ 07040.
