Edward L. Jacobs, 70, formerly of South Orange, N.J., died on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, at his home in Island Heights, N.J. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady Of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St., South Orange, on Thursday, Jan 19, at 10:30 a.m. Interment is in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J. Visitation will be held at Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Ave., South Orange, on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. For more information or to send condolences, please visit prestonfuneralhome.net. Born in Orange, N.J., Edward lived in South Orange before moving to Island Heights three years ago. He was a graduate of Columbia High School, Maplewood, Class of 1960. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve in October 1960 and represented the Coast Guard at President John F. Kennedy's inauguration. He had a 30-year career in the telecommunications industry with N.J. Bell and AT&T, retiring as an installation technician with AT&T in 1990. He also operated several successful painting and contracting companies in suburban Essex and Ocean counties over the past 44 years. Edward was the beloved husband and high-school sweetheart of Linda Katzinski Jacobs, and devoted father of Tamara Jacobs Schraiber and her husband Sergio; Keith Edward Jacobs; Dawn Corrigan and her husband, Thomas; Christian Jacobs, and Jennifer Hayward and her husband, Mark. He is also survived by eight wonderful grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations to American Cancer Society , P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, Okla. 73123-1718 would be appreciated.
