Kevin, you made the graduating class of 1960 from St. Nicholas School in Jersey City proud. I was, also, glad we had the opportunity to connect once again in your position of Superintendent of Schools when you came to ICHS. Rest in peace and thanks for your total commitment to the teachers and students within the Archdiocese of Newark.

Father Kevin, you were my first experience with how brilliant and business savvy a priest could be. I enjoyed attending your masses at St. Phil's and listening to some of the most relevant homilies I have ever heard in my adult life. You addressed real life problems in such a way that I always felt renewed in both hope and faith that things would work out. I enjoyed working along side you and your colleagues at Seton Hall to raise funds for your programs, and I wll never forget our trip to Delaware to meet with the Foundation donors there. I am very sad that you are gone, as I know you would have continued to make important advances in the work you most recently were doing. I wish you well, and hope you will send up a good word to God for those of us still here. Donna

I grew up with Kevin in Spring Lake and then Lou and I attended Father Kevin's ordination; 3 weeks later (June 24th) he married us at St. Catherine's Church. It was his first ceremony and we were thrilled that he was part of it. His words and kindness echo 40 years later. We saw him occasionally when he was with Admissions for Seton Hall and it was a joy to reconnect with him. We wish the family peace in knowing who he was and the impact he had on so many lives.
Fondly,
Chris (Sonntag)and Lou

I remember Kevin as a good man, a pleasant and friendly classmate, and engaging musician and a good friend. Kevin was always supportive and available. We were classmates at Seton Hall and then at Darlington Seminary until I entered military service and later went into teaching. I remember Kevin joining me and many of my classmates at the annual spaghetti supper (cooked by my Mom) every Easter break back in the "old days."
May God keep Kevin in His care and reward him richly for all he did for the Lord and for His Church.
Sincerely,
Mr. Donald H. Dalzell

All of us at William H. Sadlier, Inc. were saddened to hear of Msgr. Hanbury’s passing. We had the great pleasure of meeting with him at our offices in 2006, and it was his suggestion that Sadlier have more resources for priests that resulted in the section for priests on our We Believe with Project Disciple web page as well as the “homily hints” section of our We Live Our Faith web page.
Monsignor’s intelligence and wisdom made him a wonderful Superintendent of Schools, and his kindness and approachability made him a joy to speak with. This giving and faithful priest has gone home to the One he served so well.

I only met Msgr. Kevin several times; but he left such an impression on me. I have a vivid memory of the first time we met. I was volunteering in the library at St. Joseph's School in Oradell. I was reading the children a book when he came in with our Principal Mrs. Colette Vail. He was immediately taken with the kids and sat down on the floor with them to hear the rest of the story. That really touched me. You could tell that he had a heart for children and really loved his job. Few people touch your life in a poignant way, and Father Kevin always did that every time you saw him. He will be missed.

Msgr Kevin, it saddens us to realize that you are no longer with us. We will miss our dinners together and the fun we had enjoying your company. We will most of all miss your kindness, intelligence and dedication to Seton Hall University, Catholic education and the Church; especially, the faith community of St Philomena’s which you served so faithfully and well for so many years.
We console ourselves with the knowledge that you are now at peace with God, our Heavenly Father and have entered into eternal happiness with Jesus, our Brother. We also want to express our sympathy to Kevin’s family, especially, to his brother Ray and sister-in-law Pat.
Rest in peace, my friend, and may the Perpetual Light shine upon you forever

It is hard to believe that Kevin is gone---his energy filled the room and every conversation. Kevin--thanks for being a friend and colleague since we met in 1992 when I became Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of Newark---the position you assumed in 2006. Somehow I feel that your energy will be felt as the Archdiocese implements the future plan for schools. You will remain a part of that endeavor from your place in the Communion of Saints.

It was my privilege to know Msgr. Kevin in this past year at St. Philomena's Church (7am and weekend Masses).
Msgr. Kevin was the first person there to ask my name and to welcome me into the parish by name. Thereafter, he would also address me by name in the Communion line - as he did to parishoners who knew him for many years. With his busy schedule, Msgr. Kevin did not have to take the time to learn my name, especially in a large parish; but he went out of his way to welcome me. I will never forget his kindness.
Earlier this summer, Msgr. Kevin gave us a great homily asking us to consider if we would 'sit on the sidelines' or try our best to 'make a difference'. Msgr. Kevin - our wonderful priest and exuberant shepherd - you lived every day to make a difference. Paraphrasing from scripture, you were both a hearer and a doer of God's Word.
And so ' ...a doer who acts, such a one shall be blessed in what he does'. (Jas 1:22-25)

To the Hanbury, Seton Hall, and St Philomena Church Family:
"Msgr Kevin" was a wonderful example of our Catholic clergy and education today. His caring of the students and colleagues bith at SHU and the Archdiocese of Newark exemplified his friedly and nuturing demeanor. On a personal level, in my more than 12 years as a friend at SHU, he always had time for a chat, a wave and a smile. Our condolences to his 'families' - we have lost a wonderful man...however, God has now called upon you to continue your work. Rest in Peace, our dear friend.

I feel so fortunate to have spent the last two years learning from Msgr. Kevin in the CSL Program at Seton Hall. He was a loving and kind mentor, had a great sense of humor, and gave us a glimpse of the greatness we could achieve as leaders in Catholic Schools. He will continue to be an inspiration to me.
I pray for the healing of his family's hearts and for their comfort in knowing what a blessing he was to so many.
