My family and I were Tom's neighbors on Undercliff until we recently moved. He was always kind and friendly to us. I particularly enjoyed hearing his stories about the Citadel. I also loved how he would sit in a chair on his lawn and read--so many folks don't know their neighbors nowadays, and though it was certainly a unique place to sit and read, it did make it easy for us to stop and say "hello." On occassion, I would also see him at Starbucks in the morning--a familiar and welcoming smile when so many others are usually grumpy and sleepy on their way to work. The last time I saw Tom was at the Bagel Chateau--only a couple of weekends ago. We were speaking while eating breakfast, and he asked to have the leftovers we were wrapping up--gladly, we gave them to him. I, my wife and kids will miss seeing Tom around town; he was one of the first people we met when we moved here, and somehow he made us feel at home.
