My Godmother and Aunt, Irene Kosinski, was funny and smart. She was a great math teacher and changed the lives of many students. She loved her husband, my Uncle Chet, more than anything. She cared for her family and gave back to her community in many ways. She will be greatly missed. I loved her much. Rest in peace with Uncle Chet, dearest aunt.

We shared a first name and many moments in the past three years, when Irene was a member of the Community Garden.
Oh she was so full of life and rendered each moment with humor and grace.
Our short calls always ended up being long calls, laughing and sharing the times we knew Maplewood together but apart.
What an amazing role model you are to so many ...you fought a long battle that was wrought with pain with such humor...
You're so right ,Irene,...no Dr. would get your ability to deal with all you lived with .
I am so much richer for all you taught me in such a short time....my blessings to you as you meet up again with Chet.

I had the honor to be one of the many students that Mrs. Kosinski taught in her tenure in Hillside. I was one of the last classes that she had before her retirement. From those who had her before me, I know that she was as dedicated a teacher in the start as she was towards the end. She was that teacher that we can all look back and say "she taught me something that I will always use and remember." My thoughts and prayers to her family and loved ones. Thank you for sharing her with the students and faculty of Hillside.

Irene was a member of the Grace Church youth group to which my husband, David, also belonged. She had a terrific sense of humor and we always enjoyed seeing her at family events. May she rest in peace with David, Mrs. K, Chet, Father Brown, Edna and all the other wonderful Grace Church people.

Irene found the good and fun in even difficulties. I came to know her through the Durand Hedden House and Garden Assoc. Irene contributed time and energy - even when ill - to the town she loved, Maplewood.

I was an 8th grade student of Mrs. K. at AP Morris in '65-'66. She was a wonderful teacher who cared about her students. I lost an older brother to cancer that school year, and I will never forget how she helped me through that tough time. My condolences & prayers go out to her family, as I know she will be greatly missed.

I had Mrs. KO for science in 8th grade in 1981. She was one of the most influential teachers I had.
I remember she was fond of Yoda, from Emipre Strikes Back. She used to have one on her desk under a glass cube. I remember as a joke I undressed the doll, and had him standing on his head. I put the cube back on and sat down. I swear not 2 minutes went by when she sternly said "WhO TOUCHED MY YODA?!!! We all had a laugh. I had detention for two days. But I did not mind, because she and I talked about the American Revolution mostly.
Years later I showed up at W.O.K where she was working. I handed her a brand new Yoda still in the wrapper. She started to cry a bit. Mr. Mele assumed I did something wrong as usual. But she turned to him and said "I made her day."
You were one of a kind and will be missed by those whose lives you touched.

I was a student of 'Mrs KO' in 1967/68 and was very sad to see she passed. She was the first teacher I ever had that led me to believe I was more than I thought I was, and I'll never forget her for that. Thank you Mrs KO and my sincerest condolences to her family

We had Mrs. KO in 8th grade for science during the 76/77 school year. She was a wonderful teacher with a great sense of humor. She always had a quick comeback line and made science, and especially chemistry, interesting. We will always remember her fondly. May she rest in peace.

Mrs. Kosinski was a very good science teacher, a beautiful and caring person. Although I hadn't seen her for many years, she was a teacher that made a lasting impression on me and anyone else who attended AP Morris.

I fondly remember Mrs. KO during my 8th grade year at AP Morris (1976-77), as a wonderful educator and mentor to many. I often remember being in her class, that was on the third floor of an old building and us fanning ourselves to try and stay cool...to which her reply was, "You're using more energy doing that and it will not make you any cooler..." and you know she was right. Thank you for sharing your love of science, making an impression on so many and may you find heaven as cool as you were. Rest in Peace....

Mrs KO, as she was known to her students, had my greatest respect as a colleague and a woman. Always professional and true to her convictions, Irene was a wonderful model for not only her students but her fellow teachers. Having worked alongside her at AP Morris School and WOK, I really missed her leadership and presence when she retired.
May she be granted the eternal reward she so richly deserves.
