I knew Doc too long. Always interesting when we met up and shared our memories of Tell Safut. He was the guiding force behind my Archaeology career which started in the Middle East (Jordan) and now has taken me to Belize. I will miss his quirkiness.

Having Doc as my teacher for an Old Testament class at Seton Hall changed the entire direction of my life. He was a great mentor and friend. Through his encouragement I was able to experience the Middle East and ultimately graduated with a degree in Religious Studies and a minor in Archaeology. He will be greatly missed.

My condolences to the family. I was on a Tell Safut dig back in 82. I learned a log form him and still talk about the trip. I remember watching him and the other dig leaders sitting at a table at the school we lived at catagorizing pottery sherds. Bronze, Late Bronze, Bronze Late Bronze. I remember we dug up a what appeared to be a kitchen area or food storage area with 2 or 3 large cone shaped storage jars which were used to store grain and legumes/lentils. The next day the local help wrecked the dig site, smashed the jars. They thought we were digging for gold or treasure. Had great side trips to Petra and Jerash and some Roman outpost/fort in the middle of the deasert (nowhere).

Professor Wimmer's Old Testament class and World Religion class truly changed the way I see Religion. I am now a Religion teacher myself and one of the things I teach my students is something that Professor Wimmer taught me and has stuck with me ever since...the idea that Faith is a Relationship!! This is just one of many things that he taught me and that I try to pass on to my own students. He had such an easy going style and good humor in the classroom..I always looked forward to his classes. I am so grateful to have been his student. He taught me so much!
