Dear Holleran Family,
We are so sorry to learn of the tragic loss of your daughter, sister, and friend and send our deepest condolence. It is clear from the little we've read about her that she was bright, talented, accomplished, and beautiful inside and out. It doesn't seem fair or right -- and it isn't. You were all robbed of your future time with her and so was she. There are no words that can take away the pain but hope that you can find some strength in the great memories you shared with her.
Unfortunately, we understand part of what you are feeling right now; we also belong to this club that no one wants membership to, following the tragic loss of our sister, daughter, and friend Stephanie Becker (UPenn '06). We have started a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to raise awareness and help prevent this tragedy from repeating itself (www.StephanieBeckerFund.com).
When you are ready, it would be nice to connect with you on the phone or in person.
Sincerely,
Michael and the Becker Family

To the Hollernan Family; My deepest condolences to all of you. As a Mother myself; my heart aches for the pain you must all be experiencing. From all of the articles I've read, Madison was an extraordinary person. It is such a shame life puts such stress on teens to be "above and beyond" or "in comparison to"; otherwise they feel a sense of less than good enough. It truly is a rough world out there. I only hope that you will find strength in the beautiful memories you shared with Madison.

To Madison's parents,
Please know that your daughter was not alone in her struggles. As it has been explained to me, many students, including my son, find it difficult to transition from being in the top of their class in high school to being average at an Ivy League college.
Madison must be very special that God chose to spare her from the pain and bring her home to be with Him. May He embrace you and your family in the difficult days ahead and may you always feel you daughter's love in your heart.

Our families do not know each other but my 21 year old son shared your tragedy with me today. I am not sure how he heard the news but I am sure it hit home for him. We lost our 25 year old son & his only sibling in April of this year to suicide. If you ever need to talk to someone who knows your pain, whether it is days, weeks, or months from now. my heart & door is open. I won't tell you that time heals or you will get over it because that is just not true, it is a pain that only those who have lost a child knows. I'm sure you have lots of support & love around you but our family is here if you need anything at anytime. . I miss our son every day but feel blessed to have had him 25 years, that is 6 more years than you had your precious Madison. She was so beautiful. Heaven has a new special angel. Remember to breath & take one day at a time.
May God give you peace.

Holleran family,
I have never met Madison, but I wish I was lucky enough to have the chance to. Madison's death has touched me in a way I have never felt before. She has made me want to dedicate a part of my life to suicide prevention. Though it may not seem it now, Madison has already touched so many people from all over the country. Even though she is no longer with us, her story and struggle will likely save the lives of many teens feeling just like she did. The outpouring of support is a testament to the person she was. May she rest in the sweetest peace.

Dear Holleran family,
My heartfelt condolences go out to you, my family continues to feel the pain and gut wrenching emotions that only suicide survivors share. My niece Raven took her life in her dorm room 10/13/12 she was also 19. Every time I hear about another teen suicide the bandaid is ripped off and the wound is fresh. Even I don't know what it is like to lose a child this way since I was her Aunt. I see the wreckage her suicide has left in it's wake & the way the lives of all those she has touched forever changed. I wish you periods of peace during the waves of pain. I have found Suicide survivor meetings and AFSP walks and events helpful, since only survivors truly understand your pain. Know many people myself included are praying for your family.

My daughter is a current freshman who participated in sorority rush events with Madison Holleran. My brother and I are both physicians who graduated from Penn CAS 1987 and 1990. We cannot remember a suicide in the years we were at Penn, but there was no internet news in those days, and the social stigma of suicide caused most parents to cover up suicides. I respect Madison's parents for their courageous comments to the press in their most difficult time, and I believe they may have saved the lives of others with their honesty. Under The Button has opened a page" In Memoriam: A Virtual Vigil For Our Friends," so please read the comments of love about Madison. My heart breaks for you, but know what a wonderful woman you raised. Because of you, her family, her life has made a difference and helped others. Thank you.

My deepest condolences to the Holleran family. Although just meeting Madison as a fellow member of Hill College House at Penn, I feel like I have known her for years. She was a beautiful young woman, but what was most beautiful about her was something that the eye couldn't see. Her kindness and warm heart were something I gravitated towards the minute I met her this past fall. Your first birthday away from home, especially when it is in the beginning of your first semester, is difficult without your high school friends and family. Madison, however, made me feel right at home by giving me a thoughtful present and card. I will cherish these items for the rest of my life. In the short time I was lucky enough to have known her, she succeeded in leaving a profound mark on my heart and soul - this, if anything, is a testament to the amazing human being that Madison was. Her memory will remain with me for the rest of my life.

It's been quite some time since I've seen you, but you have been such an inspiration to me and countless others. You've accomplished more in your lifetime than most could in their whole lives and everyone can agree that you really are a girl who could move mountains. I remember when we went to school together at Hillside, we had Mrs. Frech and Mrs. Ebneter together. You were one of the smartest people there! I loved being partnered up with you when we had to work because you always knew what had to be done when no one else did. Probably the best memories I have of you are when the boys would team up against the girls for soccer during recess and after we're done playing, we would all just hang out on the playground, play tag, and just have fun like we had all the time in the world. You are one of if not the most talented girl of our generation and you will be missed by everyone so much. Please watch over us from above and we'll all run up there with you some day.
