John F. Ward, 88, a former Maplewood, N.J., resident for over 50 years, passed away on Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, in Runnells Specialized Hospital of Union County in Berkeley Heights, N.J.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Rose of Lima Church, 312 Ridgedale Ave., East Hanover, N.J., on Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at 11 a.m. Interment is at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J. Visitation will be held at the Jacob A. Born in Newark, N.J., Mr. Ward served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received his B.A. degree from Seton Hall University in 1949 and graduated from Rutgers Law School in Newark in 1953.
He served as the deputy attorney general for the State of New Jersey in the Attorney General's Office in Newark from 1981 to 1991. Previously, Mr. Ward was general counsel for Public Service Coordinated Transport in Maplewood for many years.
He was the beloved husband of Shirley Holmes Ward and the devoted father of Karen Ward.
