I knew Alan since I was an infant and he was my neighbor forty-two years. He was a permanent fixture of Maplewood and South Orange for so long, and I know the towns won't be the same without him. Alan was a unique, eccentric, interesting man. His passing came as a shock as I just didn't expect he would be vanish with the wind so unexpectedly. Alan, I hope you have a nice easy chair up there, and are holding a fine cigar with one hand and a snifter of hundred dollar cognac with the other. We will talk again. My deepest condolences to his family.

I will really miss Alan, his wit and knowledge are irreplaceable and he was a good friend. He joined our board some 12 years ago and always shared his writings to our benefit. My condolences to his family.

My deepest sympathy to Mr. Caruba's family and friends. I found Alan's blog a number of years ago and was inspired and comforted by his wit and knowledge of this country. I will miss him very much. I have been checking his blog daily and was concerned I just checked further and found out the sad news. Sincerely Ed Ingold
