Marvin E. Pfannenstiel, 88, passed away at home in North Arlington, N.J., on Nov. 9, 2015. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady Of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St., South Orange, N.J., on Friday, Nov. 13, at 9:30 a.m. Entombment is in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Visitation will be held at Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Ave., South Orange, on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Born in Ness City, Kan., Mr. Pfannenstiel lived in North Arlington for 42 years. He was a Navy veteran who served in the European theatre during World War II. He also served as a staff sergeant in the Army Infantry in Korea, and fought in the Battle of Pork Chop Hill. Mr. Pfannenstiel was one of the original organizers and a past president of the local steelworkers union when he worked at Wilbur B. Driver from the late 1950s to 1980. He retired in 2007 after 20 years as a security officer for the New Jersey Sports Exposition Authority. He was a past commander of the Nutley VFW Post 493. Marvin was the beloved husband of Carrie Pellecchia Pfannenstiel; devoted father of Rev. Richard Pfannenstiel, Debra Flynn and Linda O'Hagan; dear brother of Robert, Larry and Donald Pfannenstiel, Clara Marie Felts and the late James Pfannenstiel, Bernice DiSalvo and Teresa Friess.
