Obituary of Astera Argyris

Astera Argyris District Leader in Newark and Host of the TV program Astera's Thumbs Up appearing every Monday at 9 pm on Channel 19 died on January 4, 2017. She was beloved by not only many members of the Newark and New York City political and social media but by audiences as well. Previously a graduate of New York University and after she was a writer for Good Housekeeping Magazine, followed by creating many ads as well as product naming for Revlon and later Dubarry Cosmetics. She then joined some of the major New York Advertising Agencies and wrote ads for SAS Scandinavia Lines among other campaigns of note. Returning to Newark after her father's death to be with her mother, she worked for Newark as a top Aide for Councilwoman Mildred Crump and later set up her own Advertising Group and became the major publicist for the late Alfredo Silipigini a world renowned conductor as well as for other Airlines. After she continued to work for Newark's interest as District Leader of the West Ward. She then started her television show on Cablevision where she interviewed the people of Newark from Senator Ronald Rice to New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, Assemblyman Giblin and the firefighters and policemen who went to rescue New York on 9/11. But she also loved featuring the children and recently devoted a whole show to Newark's history reported by children of the area. Astera was a board member of the Giblin Association, as well as The Ronald Rice organization. Her CO District Leader is Houston Stevens. She is mourned for the loss of her charm , intelligence and caring by all who knew her and for the work she did not only for the community but for private people. She leaves behind her devastated sister, Helen. The world is a lesser place today than yesterday and all the years of her life before.
