Grandma "D" was a true lady. She also loved a good dirty joke.
I always think of her in her bright, Bermudian colors. And I recall, too, how her eyes lit up when she let out a peal of laughter. She laughed often and with gusto, and she made us laugh as well.
Humor is the greatest gift she bestowed upon her adoring family, in the Irish tradition. And also in that tradition, Grandma remained an optimist, no matter how bad things got. She lost a husband too soon, lost her beautiful home, and lost her wealth. But she never lost her sense of humor.
Grandma admired gentle men. I was never in her presence when I didn't feel completely loved and accepted.
Grandma, I love you right back, and I always will.

Dear Aunt Mel,
You are known as the favorite aunt.
The quality I most admire you for is your compassionate heart.
I remember conversations with you and felt truely listened to and your responses were always straight from your heart.
I think of the many ways you gave to the Heery family. There were tough times financially and you and Uncle Frank had your ways of making the burden somewhat lighter.
I still have and cherish my confirmation charm bracelet and set of pearl jewery you gave me for graduation.
I remember the cheerful atmosphere of our house the minute you walked through the door. I remember the loud laughter coming from Mel and Frank and Mom and Dad whenever you were together. They sooo enjoyed your company. You were a special friend to Mom and I know you both had many many heart felt conversations.
Thank you for introducing the entire family to Bermuda and the education that went along with it.
The scapbook that you made for all the Heery members is a treasured piece of family history and another example of your love for family and history.
I regret that business so often takes the place of relationships in my life. I procrastinated visiting you in rehab..and deeply regret that. However, I was so glad to see you in the hospital.. dispite your uncomfortableness the humor was flowing and your smile radiant.
You stood by Dad when Mom died, always making him feel cared for. He loved you, respected you and enjoyed your company. As Dad said, you made a GOOD TEAM!!!
You sent me a note once sharing your faith. I saw another beautiful side of you and a special part of your heart...that was the most beautiful gift you ever gave me.
I love you special Aunt and Godmother.
Even heaven is a better place since the day you arrived!!!!
Hug Mom and Dad for me,tell them I miss them and love them and someday we will all be together again!!
